Tonight’s the night this old boy finally gets to sit down and enjoy some playoff hockey for the first time since 2013. The was the year the Leafs caved in to Boston in the last 10 minutes of game 7, blowing a 3 goal lead. They haven’t been back since, until now.
Seeing as the boys are playing the top team in the league this year, the Washington Capitals, I don’t know if I’ll be “enjoying” playoff hockey, but I will be watching it. I have had absolutely no interest in the playoffs for the last few years. That’s probably the case with most people. When your team isn’t in it, you kind of lose interest and don’t care who wins.
I must admit, the team I usually pull for when the Leafs aren’t around is the Capitals. This year could be different. I could actually be pulling for the Oilers, who look poised for what could be a pretty good run, despite on overtime loss last night.
It’s tough to really cheer for anyone else. Once a Leafs fan, always a Leafs fan. I remember sitting in front of the TV with my dad on Saturday nights cheering on the Blue and White. There was only one team we hated…the dreaded Montreal Canadiens. That’s still true to this day. If the Canadiens were playing an American team for the Stanley Cup, I’d be cheering for the Americans, plain and simple.
So, with the Leafs back on the ice this post season, I’ll actually be interested in the playoffs again.
It might only be a four game run, but I’m going to enjoy it!
