I hate to admit it, but this morning while I was sitting at my desk getting things ready for the show, I was already thinking ahead to summer vacation time. Two months from now seems like a long time! It’s not like I’m being overworked here. Plus, it’s only been 2 1/2 months since I got back from our Flea Market vacation in Mexico. Here I am, 2 1/2 months in with 2 months to go. Sounds more like a prison sentence with no time lopped off for good behaviour.
I always take the last week of June and the first week of July off. My wife and I used to take that first week and swing down to the states. Our springboard for a few years was Havre, Montana.
From Havre, we’d just go where we felt like going. We had no plans. One year we made our way to Going To The Sun Road in Glacier National Park. From there we continued through the Canadian side of the park and ended up in Waterton before making the short trek to Lethbridge to see mom and dad. We hadn’t planned it that way, it just worked out that we were able to kill two birds with one stone.
Nowadays we stick closer to home so we can do some fun summer things with our granddaughters. On top of that, we can never really get away for more than a day or two. The reason for that? Max, of course. We park Max with friends or family for two weeks every year when we take our winter getaway and we hate having to dump him with anyone else for too long of a time during the rest of the year.
Right now I’m counting down the number of months until vacation time. I guess I really shouldn’t get excited about it until I start counting down the number of sleeps.
By the way, does anyone know how many sleeps it is until June 24th?
