The cost of a parking ticket will be going up by 10-dollars in Regina starting July 1, 2017.
That decision was made at Tuesday night’s special council meeting to revise the city budget.
The fee after the first two weeks will go from 55 dollars to 65 beginning July 1st.
Kim Onrait, with the City of Regina says the early payment fee structure remains the same, however, transgressors will notice an increase.
“The increase will be from 55 – as an example – to 65-dollars,”said Onrait. “And then the early payment, you would get 35-dollars off the ticket if paid within 14 days.”
Onrait says the main objective of the increase is not extra revenue for the city.
“The revenue is secondary to making sure we continue to maintain compliance,” said Onrait. “We want to ensure that traffic is moving through the city properly and that pedestrians can remain safe.”
Onrait says the city estimates an extra 500-thousand dollars of revenue could be generated.
