There was one name, many in Saskatchewan were hoping to hear announced, as the Canadian Space Agency introduced the final 17 candidates in their astronaut recruitment campaign.
And Saskatchewan residents were not disappointed.
Jason Leuschen, who grew up on a farm near Bruno, was announced among the final candidates this morning.
Leuschen is a 2nd Lieutenant, a pilot with the Royal Canadian Airforce. Leuschen says he fell in love with the sky growing up and that he was a science nerd taking part in Canada-wide science fairs.
Leuschen graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
Leuschen says getting the job would be equivalent to “winning the nerd Super Bowl” and that he couldn’t ask for anything else.
