The CFL is fining the Riders 31 thousand 500 dollars for violating two CFL bylaws which included players attending practice while on the CFL suspension list and violations related to the recruitment of a junior player. The CFL has also fined Chris Jones 5-thousand dollars for meeting with quarterback Johnny Manziel’s publicist which constitutes tampering. The league says there is no evidence the Riders held any workouts with Manziel as had been suggested.
The Riders issued a statement Friday morning saying the Riders accept the disciplinary action taken against them and they have been forthcoming with the CFL on information they have requested. The statement goes on to say the team looks forward to moving on and preparing for the 2017 season.
The league also announced Friday no team went over the salary cap and that the cap for the 2017 season has been set at 5.15 million dollars.
