Friday morning, with the wonderful weather we had, my wife and I thought it was a good time to get some yard work done. The bush along our front lawn was in serious need of trimming and our lawn needed a good cut. Plus, my friend was coming over to repair our toilet. It promised to be a busy couple of hours after work, and I didn’t mind a bit. I was actually anxious to get out in the yard to putter around on such a beautiful day.
By the time I got home from work my wife had almost finished trimming the bush and my friend was sitting on our front steps waiting to get to work on the toilet. While my wife was bagging up what was left of the branches I ran over to the hardware store and grabbed what we needed to get the toilet fixed.
In less than an hour everything was done except for the lawn. My wife and I sat out on the deck for a little while with my buddy enjoying the clear blue sky. My wife had sweaty hair and a flush face. She looked whooped. It looked as if she had just put in a good shift of playing bingo!
After my friend left I went into the shed and grabbed the lawn mower. The gas tank wasn’t full, but I figured I’d have enough to the get both the back and front lawns done. I was wrong. I didn’t get halfway done the back lawn before I had to run to the gas station with my jerry can. Then, halfway through doing the front lawn, the lawn mower gave up the ghost again. This time, oil was the culprit. The lawn mower was bone dry, so it was back into the vehicle to grab some oil at the hardware store. That did it.
That first cut is always my favorite. I love the hum of the lawn mower on a hot sunny day. It was also the first time I had worn a pair of shorts this year, not including our trip to Mexico in January. Speaking of firsts, we actually turned on the air conditioner for the first time this year!
Now I’m all set for the summer. Bring it on!
