The Saskatchewan government has announced the head office for the new provincial health authority will be located in Saskatoon.
The first day of operations is set for this fall.
Health Minister, Jim Reiter said Saskatoon has been chosen because it is more centrally located in the province, is close to the college of medicine at the U of S and will be in close proximity to the new Children’s Hospital.
Jobs will be located elsewhere as well with executive leadership and senior management in Regina, Prince Albert and Moose Jaw and other major communities.
However, Moose Jaw’s Mayor, Fraser Tolmie says he would have liked to see the headquarters of the upcoming single health authority in their city.
Tolmie feels they have similarities to Saskatoon, which is where the province chose to hold the authority headquarters.
“We’ve got a new hospital – which is why I thought Moose Jaw would be a great place to have the headquarters,” said Tolmie. “But this new executive model will establish senior executive leadership roles in Moose Jaw. And that is something I am happy about.”
The name will be the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
