SaskTel is expecting another busy Mother’s Day this year.
Customers are forecast to make approximately 1.13 million calls Sunday. That estimate includes nearly 330,000 landline calls and approximately 800,000 from wireless phones.
Greg Jacobs, external communications manager for SaskTel, said traditionally, Mother’s Day is the busiest day of the year for the network, so they’re ready for the rush.
He said the busiest times to call are between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., then again from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m.
“Our network is designed to handle the influx that we would see,” said Jacobs. “However, with the type of traffic that we are expecting this Mother’s Day, it might be best if you try to call, text or videochat Mom outside of those times.”
According to Jacobs, the sheer anticipated volume of calls sometimes scares people, and oftentimes they see many waiting a day to call their moms.
Along with more than a million phone calls, SaskTel predicts over 10 million text messages will be sent on Mother’s Day as well.
