The Regina Pats season is over.
With 6:48 to play in the 3rd period, Austin Wagner scored to give Regina a 3-1 lead in Game 6 of the WHL final making it look like a one-game winner take all Game 7 would be played at the Brandt Centre, but the Seattle Thunderbirds had other ideas.
Ryan Gropp scored at 14:38 to put Seattle within one, and Keegan Kolesar tied it with a power-play goal at 17:06 to send the game into overtime.
In that overtime, Alexander True hopped on a rebound and slid it past Tyler Brown at the 12:36 mark to send the Thunderbirds on to the Mastercard Memorial Cup with a 4-3 win as they capture the Ed Chynoweth Cup for the first time in their 40 year history.
It ends what was a magical season for the Pats as they won a record 52 games, and were the number one ranked team in Canada for a majority of the year.
Captain Adam Brooks, who returned to the lineup after being out since Game 1, along with Dawson Leedahl and Chase Harrison played their last game for the team as they were the three overage players on the squad.
