With the extreme windy and stormy conditions around Saskatchewan on Wednesday, SaskPower received thousands of calls reporting downed lines and power outages.
Johnathan Tremblay with SaskPower said as of 3:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, outages have been reported all across the province, and over 2,500 calls for service had come in.
“We are seeing them everywhere across the province, from North Battleford to Yorkton, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw and Regina, we have gotten about 2,500 calls so far to our outage centre,” Tremblay told CKRM on Wednesday.
Tremblay also said it’s important if you see a downed or damaged power line to call SaskPower as soon as possible, and stay at least ten meters away.
Wind gusts as high as 106 kilometers an hour were reported in Saskatoon, wind gusts in Regina reached near 90 kilometers an hour on Wednesday.
Severe Thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail are also possible heading into Wednesday evening.
Environment Canada had watches and warnings out for many areas around Saskatchewan Wednesday.
