The YWCA has teamed up with several bars and restaurants around Regina aiming to end sexual assault and so-called victim blaming .
In 2016 the police reported rate of sexual assaults increased by 16 per-cent in the city.
Kendra Strong-Garcia, the YWCA’s Senior Director of Programs, says many victims of sexual abuse do not even come forward due to the fear of being blamed.
“I can’t even share how many numbers of people don’t even come forward,” said Strong-Garcia. “It’s because of the fear of being blamed as a victim.”
Strong-Garcia says the program called Blamé will see the bars and restaurants involved use coasters and posters around the building to bring into light rape culture and victim blaming
