Elections Saskatchewan citing a number of different challenges including public confusion and having enough volunteers to work, are looking to change the date of either the 2020 municipal election or provincial election.
As it stands now, the dates of those two elections are five days apart.
Elections Saskatchewan Tim Kydd says Chief Electoral Officer Michael Boda has put three proposals forward.
Those proposals from Michael Boda outlined in a discussion paper on the matter are:
- Extending the scheduled 2020 provincial election to April 2021
- Move the municipal elections to spring
- Move the provincial election up to the spring of 2020
Both the NDP and Saskatchewan Party have indicated they are not in favour of extending the provincial election to April 2021 which is the option most preferred by Boda.
Kydd says discussions will be held with various parties over the next few months before a final decision is made.
