As part of the deal when opening the K + S Potash Canada Bethune Mine, K + S has committed over $2.8 million in funding for wetland conservation to ensure wetlands affected by the Bethune mine are offset through the restoration and preservation of wetlands across the province.
Head of conservation programs of the Saskatchewan branch of Ducks Unlimited Canada Trevor Plews says the money will go a long way in making a difference.
“It’s an incredible opportunity for Ducks Unlimited to help restore some of our landscapes,” he said
“In this case, we’re looking at restoring some drains and altered wetlands across Saskatchewan, and this money will help us generate up to 360 acres worth of lost wetlands,” he added.
The K+S agreement is through Ducks Canada Unlimited.
