A fundraiser will be held in Yellow Grass this Saturday in memory of homicide victim Abbie Speir.
There will be a slo-pitch tournament during the day with a beer gardens along with many children’s activities.
Following that a tree will be planted in Speir’s honour with a cabaret and silent auction in the evening.
Jen Wilkinson one of the event organizers said they have seen support pour in from all across Saskatchewan.
“It’s been absolutely amazing, people that knew Abbie, people that didn’t know Abbie but just feel really touched by the story, we’ve had people from all over Saskatchewan contacting us wanting to donate. It’s just been unreal and my heart has just been overwhelmed by the amount of support,” Wilkinson said.
Thirty-three-year-old Speir was found at her home in Yellow Grass earlier this spring after a suspicious fire.
Her partner Kevin Obina Okafor has since been charged with first degree murder after police arrested him just outside of Swift Current.
All the money raised this weekend will be going to the trust fund for Speir’s three kids.
Yellow Grass is located about 90 kilometers southeast of Regina.
