The President and CEO of Spartan Energy, Rick McHardy, has been named Saskatchewan Oilman of the year.
McHardy received the honour at the annual Saskatchewan Oil and Gas show in Weyburn.
The recognition is for an individual who has made a significant contribution to the growth and success of the petroleum industry in Saskatchewan.
Spartan Energy saw an opportunity in the conventional Mississippian fairway in southeast Saskatchewan, an older field where drilling dated back to the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Today, the company that began four years ago as a 25 million dollar start-up has grown to produce 21 thousand barrels per day, to hold a land base of 376 thousand acres and a market capitalization of 1.4 billion dollars.
Also honoured were three people in the Saskatchewan Oil Patch Hall of Fame, including the late Bud Bell, former president of Schlumberger of Canada.
Also going into the hall of fame are Grant Fagerheim, chairman of Whitecap Resources and Roger Soucy, founding president of the Petroleum Services Association of Canada.
