Yesterday morning while at work I got a message from our granddaughters mom asking if I could pick up Kelcey after work and look after her for the afternoon. Apparently she wasn’t feeling well and mom decided to keep her home from school. I’m in!
So, I raced over right after work to pick her up. By the time I got there she appeared to feeling a whole lot better. First stop, lunch. Where? Where else but McDonald’s. I was just hoping that whatever her mom said she was throwing up that morning wasn’t going to be coming up again anytime soon. She seemed to be doing fine, so after lunch we made our way to the dog park so Max could have a good run.
Before finding that out I’d be babysitting for the afternoon, I had already planned on cutting some branches from our tree that were hanging over the roof of the house, so that was my next job after we got home from the park. I grabbed Kelcey’s electric car from the shed and she drove that around the backyard while I went up on the roof and got down to business. She was driving around, Max was laying in the corner of the yard, and I was up on the roof cutting branches. I thought that would have made a beautiful picture.
After I was done, Kelcey helped me haul the branches out to the alley at the back of our fence. After that she grabbed the broom and did her best to sweep off the deck. What a girl! Always loves helping grandma and papa. But there was a payoff for her. I had to play ball with her when we were all done. Hey, papa needs to rest a little first! So, I grabbed a coffee, relaxed for a bit, and then it was on to the back lawn to play ball, which we did for the next 45 minutes.
Before I knew it, we were back into the vehicle and on our way to pick her sister up after school.
For an afternoon that wasn’t planned, it was the best afternoon I’ve had in a long time.
Thank you Kelcey!
