The wind and a lack of rain are two major reasons why Regina’s mosquito population is virtually non-existent this year — and not many people seem to be missing them.
Russell Eirich is the manager of forestry, pest control and horticulture for the City of Regina. He says it was very dry last month, with only about 6.5 millimeters of rain.
In terms of mosquito counts, Eirich says crews are averaging about three mosquitos per trap.
Compared to the historical average of 11 mosquitoes per trap, Eirich says Regina is well below the average count.
