A formal 10-year agreement has been signed between the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region and the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan.
College Dean Dr. Preston Smith says this should be something that will support access and quality of care in southern Saskatchewan.
Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region CEO Keith Dewar says the college has been very beneficial in the past, and is something which should provide a solid future for the students they serve and healthcare in southern Saskatchewan.
Dewar says the challenges which health care provide would be much tougher if it weren’t for the work already done by those at the Regina campus.
The agreement, which goes until January of 2027, commits both to shared goals as they move forward on building their existing partnership, and further enhance the offerings and strengths of the Regina campus.
About 40 per cent of all second, third and fourth-year undergraduate medical students are already taking their training in Regina.
It is expected patients will benefit from improved recruitment and retention of graduates in southern Saskatchewan.
