By the time I pulled up to my computer this morning I had already been awake 5 hours. Last night was just one of those nights that I couldn’t sleep for the life of me.
When I went to bed last night I was tired and ready for a good night of sawing logs. I didn’t read as long as I usually do before falling asleep. My book kept wanting to fall from my hand and tumble to the floor. I finally gave in about 8:15 and was out within minutes.
The next thing I knew I was wide awake and when I looked at the clock it was just after 10. Hey, no problem. Lots of time to get back to sleep to be well rested for the work day. The trouble was, I felt like I just had 10 hours of sleep. I wasn’t tired at all. So, for the next 4 hours I tossed and turned and wrestled with the cat for good bed position.
I kept looking at the clock playing the old “if I get to sleep right now” game.
Usually when this happens I feel like I could finally go to sleep about 10 minutes before the alarm clock is ready to go off. Not this morning. I just wasn’t tired at all. When you work a crazy shift like this, it isn’t uncommon to have a night like this once in a while. It’s not that big of a deal.
I never really worry about it. Once I have a shower and get into a couple of cups of coffee, I’m ready to go for the day!
The nice thing about this situation is I’m almost guaranteed a great sleep the next night!
