Regina is represented by three people in the newly-created Saskatchewan Health Authority unveiled Wednesday by Health Minister Jim Reiter.
The board is composed of 10 members appointed for three-year terms.
“We have what I believe is an outstanding Board of Directors,” Reiter said after he made an announcement in Regina. “We have people with backgrounds in accounting, law, business, medicine and the education sector. And lots of experience in governance.”
Reiter says the focus of this new authority is to streamline how the health care system is operated and remove a “top-heavy” approach to delivering health care to Saskatchewan residents.
“It’s not about affecting jobs on the frontline,” Reiter said. “It’s about governance and management. I think there’s very much been a feeling in this province that we were top-heavy in administration. This is about rectifying that.”

Dick Carter of Regina has been appointed as Board Chairperson. He is a retired partner of KPMG, where he worked for more than 30 years in cities across western Canada.
“I’ve spoken to them all this weekend,” Carter said after the announcement Wednesday morning. “They’re all eager and looking at their background, they’re all capable and it’s a good mix. I’m very excited to be working with this group of folks.”
The two other Regina board members are Judy Davis and Robert Pletch.
Davis was President and CEO of the Hospitals of Regina Foundation and Pletch is Counsel with the law firm MLT/Aikins.
The board will legally begin governing operations when the Provincial Health Authority Act is proclaimed and the new organization officially launches – which is anticipated in the fall.
In the meantime, the board will act in an advisory capacity to help guide the transition and prepare for operations.
