Children in need of hearing aids will still be covered beyond July 1st.
The province has decided to take a longer period of time to phase out the Hearing Aid Plan for children, to ensure families whose kids need hearing aids are still covered until new services are available.
Currently, the HAP helps around 40,000 people in the province.
Health Minister Jim Reiter said this affects hearing aids and the sale of hearing aids, but programs for cochlear implants will continue.
He noted conversations will be happening with private audiologists to ensure services will be available.
Reiter didn’t have an exact date for when the new wind down would occur.
