Expect plenty of police presence this weekend in the Qu’Appelle Valley as Country Thunder Saskatchewan gets underway.
According to RCMP Sergeant Craig Cleary, it was a calm night Wednesday night, with no calls for service.
But Cleary says it’s generally that way for the first night. He anticipates police will start getting busy later Thursday and into the weekend.
“Any sort of violations, any sort of assaults,” Cleary said at a media scrum on site at Country Thunder. “Impaired driving obviously. We strongly recommend that people keep the drinking to their sites. We’re obviously going to talk to them about open alcohol violations and driving violations.
Cleary says about 40 police personnel will be on the Country Thunder site throughout the weekend ensuring the safety of the fans who are attending this year.
He adds there will be little tolerance for drinking and driving as RCMP as well as police in Regina have stepped up their efforts.
