Winnipeg’s Karen Kuldys may not have one million dollars, but the CFL and its partners are coming through for her after she missed out on a one million dollar prize during Thursday’s game between the Bombers and Toronto Argonauts because of a bad call by an official/
Kuldys was the “Touchdown To Win” contestant. That contest sees her get one million dollars if two touchdowns were scored on kick returns during hte game.
Two were scored, but on the second one, a late flag flew as the official called for an illegal block penalty despite the fact it had no impact on the play thus negating the touchdown and the prize.
CFL fans and players alike took to Twitter with the hashtag “whataboutkaren” trending for several hours.
New commissioner Randy Ambrosie was at the game and spoke to Kuldys on Friday morning. At that time, he awarded her and her family to be the CFL’s guest and attend the Grey Cup game and other festivities in Ottawa this November. The Bombers are giving her family season tickets for the rest of this year and next, while Safeway is offering free groceries. Air Miles is also giving Kuldys 500,000 air miles in response to the gaffe.
Kuldys would not have walked away empty-handed as she did win a home entertainment system worth $25,000 dollars for having one kick returned for a touchdown.
On Friday afternoon, AIR MILES Canada announced they will be giving Kuldys 500,000 air miles, which equates to roughly $50,000.
