Well, there it is, another Craven is in the books. This was the first time in a long time that we had sun from start to finish and although it looked a little dicey yesterday morning, by lunchtime people were already scrambling trying to find some shade.
One of my favorite parts of Craven is running into people I only see once a year. Whether they come up with the crew from the US or are part of the crew hired locally, a lot of the time backstage is reconnecting with these people. Everybody remembers everybody. Handshakes, hugs, and greetings with a little BS mixed in for good measure.
I met and interviewed the guys from Locash. Great guys who were more than happy to join me in the hot interview room we had set up backstage. The same goes for the James Barker Band. What a fun bunch of guys. Last night I had the chance to interview Keith Urban for the Jumbotron before Gloria and I MC’d his show. I was very impressed. He was very nice and I can see why the ladies love this guy, although standing next to me makes anyone look quite appealing!
The only glitch in the weekend came on Saturday afternoon. There were about 120 of us crammed into the VIP tent for a special acoustic performance by Dallas Smith. Kim Blevins came and grabbed me from the table we were sitting at and asked if I would go on stage and introduce Him. Hey no problem, that’s what I’m here for. So, just before Dallas was ready I ran up to the stage and went to jump up to the microphone. Well, the toe of my sandal caught the top the stage, which was only a couple of feet off the ground, and I did a face plant right in front of the drum kit. There I was, flat on my stomach in front of more than 100 people. Talk about embarrassing! I popped back up as quickly as I could and proceeded to do what I was asked to do. Then I sheepishly made my way back to my table where I tried to blend in as much as I could.
All in all, even with the face plant, it was a perfect weekend!
