Sunday night, on my drive back into Regina after spending a long day at Country Thunder in Craven, I noticed something I still see in the city all the time, but don’t notice on the highway that often…a person texting while they were driving.
I was cruising along doing a little better than the posted speed limit when I rolled up on a small car moving a bit slower than the rest of the traffic. As I pulled along side of this driver to pass, I noticed it was a younger woman with her eyes staring down at the bottom of her steering wheel where her free hand held her cell phone. Her fingers were moving a mile a minute on a text she was working on. Here she is, traveling down the highway at just under 110 kms/hr on the highway, and she’s not even watching the road!
It’s dangerous enough doing that in the city, let alone traveling on a highway at twice the speed!
I don’t know how this can be eradicated. It’s like smoking. Everyone knows it’s bad for you but people still smoke. And, who cares if it’s against the law. That doesn’t matter. Killing someone is also against the law and people still do that every day.
I’m not a preacher and I’m not here to tell anyone what and what not to do, but if you’re doing something that could end up hurting someone else, including me, toss that cell phone into your glove compartment until your drive is done!
Man, I’m starting to sound more like my dad everyday!
