Residents in Saskatchewan’s Sun Country Health Region are being warned of mosquitoes caught in surveillance traps have been found to be infected with West Nile virus.
The warning comes from Medical Health Officer, Dr. Lanre Medu.
The provincial mosquito surveillance program identified infected mosquitoes in traps collected on July 11 in the Estevan area.
According to Dr. Medu , this is occurring a few weeks earlier than 2016 and there may be an increase in infection rates and possible human infections.
Residents are avoid to take precautions from mosquitoes like wearing insect repellent, drain standing water, mosquito-proof homes and wear protective clothing, especially when camping or working outdoors.
