Crews were called to the 25th Street Bridge early Thursday morning after someone noticed a person swimming in river.
When an attempt was made to pull the man into the rescue craft, he became combative. Eventually he was restrained and taken ashore to safety.
That is when the 25-year old was found to be wanted on a Canada wide warrant for being unlawfully at large.
He was also charged with assaulting a police officer as well as receiving a ticket under the city swimming bylaw.
He will appear in Provincial court on Thursday afternoon.
