There’s a Good Samaritan in Regina who took it upon himself to clean up Regina’s cenotaph early Monday morning.
His name is Ron Eisler and this picture was posted Monday on 620 CKRM’s sister station The Wolf Rock’s Facebook page. It shows the cenotaph clean with the graffiti scrawl removed.
“Basically, it’s just my way of disarming whoever is doing this,” Eisler said Monday morning in an interview with 620 CKRM News. “Because, they obviously won’t respond to morals – you can’t really appeal to morals by making a story about how disgraceful they are. So, the best thing we can do is probably make it as though it didn’t even happen.”
Regina police have indicated they are investigating the incident in Victoria Park which happened Saturday night.
Eisler says it was just as easy to remove the graffiti himself, than to wait for someone else to take it off.
“I just thought, Monday morning, there’s going to be thousands of people walking through there and looking at that.” Eisler said. “The longer it goes being disgraced and desecrated, the more dihonourable it is for the people who died.”
The monument pays tribute to local soldiers killed in combat.
It is not the first time the monument has been vandalized much to the disgust of Legion members who simply don’t know why someone would do this.
