Saskatchewan basketball was shining at home and abroad over the weekend.
Both the boys and girls team took home bronze medals at the Canadian Under 15 basketball championships happening at the University of Regina.
Regina’s Kennedy Hollinger had 19 points in a 68-45 win over B.C. to take third place on the girls’ side while in the boys’ 3rd place game, it was Saskatchewan edging out Alberta 81-78 with Saskatoon’s Keon Cleland registering 18 points to lead the winners.
Meanwhile, three players with connections to the basketball programs at the University of Regina, and the University of Saskatchewan were on the Canadian team that captured bronze at the World Under 19 basketball championships in Italy.
Regina’s Angela Bongomin, who plays for the Cougars, along with U of S Husky players Libby Epoch from Moose Jaw, and Summer Maskiewich from Calgary were on the team.
The third place finish is the highest ever for Canada at the World Under 19 category.
