I, like many, was shocked to learn Brad Wall was stepping down as Premier of the wheat province today. I’m not one of those guys that writes about politics or endorses political candidates, but I do like talking about people who step up to try to make a difference in their country, their province or their community regardless of their political stripes.
If Facebook has taught us anything it’s to never talk politics. You’ve probably figured out that I don’t bring it up on air or online (I save that for friends over beer). Whether you liked or disliked Brad Wall, he made us…forced us….to get engaged in the direction of our province. He made us interested in our home and reminded Canada that Saskatchewan is more than just that flat, rectangular space between Manitoba and the powerhouse they call Alberta. He reminded us it’s a province that feeds and energizes the country and the world, that we are a unique people…and we should be proud of it.
Political leanings aside, it’s not easy being a politician…or a leader…in these slice and dice social media times we live in. Thanks, Brad Wall, for not being another “keyboard warrior/arm chair quarterback” and actually stepping up to the plate to try and make a difference.
Regardless of your political views I hope today inspires more people to take up the cause and move our great province forward.
