The Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region is reminding Reginans to take the necessary precautions against West Nile Virus after mosquitoes carrying the disease were found in the city.
Deputy Medical Health Officer Dr. Maurice Hennink says some traps in the Sherwood Drive area found a mosquito carrying West Nile.
Hennink says the advice being given is the advice given at any time when mosquitoes are prevalent.
That is to cover up and wear insect repellent, reducing time outside between dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most likely to bite and to do things like remove water from standing property.
With the recent rain we have had, Hennink is expected to see the mosquito population in the city rise over the next few days as mosquito larvae starts to hatch.
