The next few months in Saskatchewan will be interesting politically as both the Saskatchewan Party and NDP elect new leaders.
Whoever becomes the new leader of the Saskatchewan Party will lead them into the next provincial election as the Premier in the wake of Brad Wall’s resignation.
University of Saskatchewan political scientist Greg Poelzer expects many current MLA’s like Ken Cheveldayoff, Jim Reiter and Kevin Doherty to throw their hat into the ring.
He says whoever does win will have to try and exude the same charisma Wall has brought to the table which he admits will be tough to do.
Poelzer adds the decision by Wall is a bad one for the NDP as they select their new leader. While a provincial election is a long ways off, Poelzer says a new leader with a new vision can put the New Democrats at a disadvantage.
