A new 12-unit rental housing project was unveiled in Regina Friday morning.
Several dignitaries were on hand, including Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale and Regina Mayor Michael Fougere.
Ralph Goodale says the federal government remains committed to providing housing for people who otherwise may go without.
“The Government is Canada is making a contribution in the order of 800-thousand dollars, matched by the Province of Saskatchewan,” Goodale said from the groundbreaking ceremony. “As you can see, the activity is already underway.”
With money coming in from all three levels of government, Mayor Fougere says Gabriel Housing is crucial for the City of Regina.
He says making housing available for at-risk families is critical when it comes to the future of many families in Regina.
“We have many needs in our community,” Mayor Fougere said at the event. “Housing to stabilize a family is so critically important. If you want to make sure a family is safe, you provide them housing. FOr those at risk, having housing is a way to stabilize a family and secure their future.”
The building will be a four-level accessible apartment building on Rae Street in south Regina.
