An investigation is underway after a man on remand at the Regina Correctional Centre died Wednesday morning.
The 48 year old, whose name is not being released at this time, was in remand awaiting trial on drugs and weapons charges.
Ministry of Justice spokesperson Drew Wilby says not many details can be given, but he can say protocols call for checks on prisoners to be done once an hour.
Wilby added the man was in a cell by himself.
There was an incident at the courthouse on Tuesday in which three people were taken to hospital after some drug use.
Wilby says there is no indication to suggest the two incidents are related, but investigators will be looking into it to see if any parallels can be drawn.
