Finally, the month of September. The ninth month, that is the gateway to a sports fan’s paradise.
The clash of all things related to sport: football, baseball, hockey and the other events that wrap themselves around a fan, Olympic trials for curling, skiing, skating.
For some, its the beginning of another school year. That of course leads us to college/university athletics – volleyball, basketball, hockey, football and soccer.
It is either time to get serious about the last half of your season and the push to make the playoffs or it is the start of something special that will wind its way through the short and cold days of winter into spring of 2018.
Currently, you’ll be able to drill right into the world of football in Regina, Saskatchewan. The U of R Rams are hosting UBC Thunderbirds on Friday night at Mosaic Stadium. Saturday at Mosaic Stadium, fan day plus the unveil of two new statues. The complete landscaping of the new complex not totally complete!
Our rivals to the East will start to filter in. Ah, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and their faithful, Queen City bound. Hotels and malls will be crawling with our flatlander cousins. Do not hide, bring out the signage and let’s get this party started for the next two weeks.
On Sunday, come to the Coors’ Tailgate Party, be ready to be in your seats for a 1/2 hour before the game – its CARD STUNT DAY!
There are after parties too on Sunday – Thanks to places like Victoria’s Tavern. And then on Monday, feel yourself crawl back to a normal state. It is a longggg weekend after all.
OH! And with all of that, that Regina Pats kick off their 2017/18 Season – an exciting 100 year anniversary year! Plus the Memorial Cup!
Be bold, have fun. Don’t be dumb and enjoy the beginning of something special – back, to back to back sports.
