The three forest fires near the the communities of Pelican Narrows, Jan Lake, Birch Portage and Sandy Bay in northeast Saskatchewan are still posing a threat, with wildfires now reported from the far north to the far south.
Steve Roberts with Wildfire Management says there are 37 active wildfires, and one on Monday which has since been put out was close to the border with Montana near Glentworth.
“Those fires in general, and the hazards associated with them indicate that we will continue to have a provincial fire ban,” Roberts said in a telephone conference call to the media. “It’s from the Churchill River System, down to the southern border.”
In total, there are 24-hundred-57 evacuees with 842 in Saskatoon and the rest in Prince Albert.
Deanna Valentine with Emergency Social Services says 161 people are at the Henk Reyes Soccer Centre, 499 at hotels and 182 staying with family and friends or camping.
