Thanks to big days from Clarence Denmark and Maurice Leggatt, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers earned a split of their annual home-and-home September showdowns with the Saskatchewan Roughriders by winning “The Banjo Bowl” 48-28 on Saturday afternoon.
Denmark caught two touchdown passes from Matt Nichols while Leggatt returned a punt for a touchdown along with an interception as the Bombers ended Saskatchewan’s win streak at 3 dropping the Riders record to 5-5.
Kevin Glenn threw two touchdown passes in the game, but he left in the second half with an injury to his throwing wrist or hand. After the game, head coach and general manager Chris Jones told 620 CKRM’s Luc Mullinder that he doesn’t think there is a break, but it is too premature to say that officially.
The Riders will be back on the road next week as they travel to Hamilton Friday in a game that starts at 5 o’clock.
Before the game, the CFL announced next year’s CFL Week will be held in Winnipeg from March 22-25. The event features the league’s combine, a Hall of Fame gala dinner to announce inductees and numerous fan activities. The first CFL Week was held in Regina.
