The days are getting shorter, the leaves are changing colour and we’re inching closer and closer to that next season, which shall remain nameless at this point. Stores everywhere are stepping up with Halloween sales, even Halloween themed temporary stores are popping up in places.
Believe it or not, I’ve seen a couple of Facebook posts talking about Christmas already despite the fact it’s still over three months away. It got me thinking about the season and, specifically about treats and holidays drinks like Eggnog. Turns out, a grocery store chain in Canada has already released “Holiday Eggnog” to their shelves! A few folks in Alberta were the first to see this.
I enjoy Eggnog and I question why it’s a Christmas only drink? What’s wrong with having nog in…say…March? Or May? Why is Eggnog only available at Christmas (unless you make your own)? Just call it Eggnog and make it available all year long. Now, I understand there is a lot of tradition surround nog. Some may argue it’s the drink that binds families together over Christmas. If that’s the case, then maybe it can bind families together at the Thanksgiving or Easter holidays!
While I think it’s way too early to market Christmas or “Holiday” products such as “Holiday Eggnog,” I think a generic, non-holiday themed brand of year ’round Eggnog is a-ok! Just my thoughts.
