More and more everyday I wonder exactly what it is that draws people to Facebook. I see so much crap on Facebook I’m almost embarrassed for the things that some people post. I’m sure there are some useful posts, but they seem to be few and far between.
I see a lot of posts that show a map with a red line showing exactly where it is that person is flying to that day. Really? Do you think people care that you’re flying to Chicago that morning to take in some Cubs games over the course of a weekend? How about those city maps that show which restaurant someone is eating in that night? The last thing I care to do is let the rest of the Facebook world know where my wife and I are dining. Some people even take a picture of their dinner plate and what’s on it. Hey, nobody cares that you’re enjoying roast beef and mashed potatoes at home that night! Sheesh.
How about all of the selfies? I get it. You think you look hot and want the rest of the world to know what you look like, even though your look hasn’t changed much over the course of the last 100 selfies you’ve posted in the last 24 hours. A little too narcissistic for me. I have never posted a selfie, ever. There is nothing wrong with posting selfies, it’s just the people that post a million of them that rubs me the wrong way.
One of my biggest pet peeves are the posts that are followed by “type yes” if you agree. No thank you. I have seen Facebook posts from people whining about how bad their teeth are and how they would like someone to help them with dental costs to profane rants about exes. I really don’t need to know someone’s medical history or the fact that their van broke down that morning. I don’t care that you’re leaving work early because you’re tired or not feeling well. Tell your boss, not everyone on Facebook. What is it about Facebook that compels people to let everyone know intimate details of their lives? I don’t get it.
Hey, I’m not anti-Facebook. It can be a fun place to hang out and communicate with people. It’s just all of the useless stuff that goes on that gets my goat!
