The Saskatchewan government is paying tribute to biotechnology this week.
Biotech week is designed to draw attention to the economic impact from biotechnology.
Ag West Bio president Wilf Keller says biotechnology has helped the development of new crops to withstand weather extremes and improved resistance to disease and insects.
He adds the livestock sector has also seen benefits from biotechnology.
“The improvement made in vaccines,” Keller said. “The improvements made in genetic testing of livestock, most definitely.”
About one third of Canada’s agriculture biotech sector is based in Saskatchewan.
