Saskatchewan’s 28 public and separate school divisions will now be purchasing their fuel in bulk.
The bulk purchase fuel agreement with the Federated Co-operatives LTD began this school year and is something that could save one-million dollars in total.
Donna Johnson, Assistant Deputy Minister of Education says that is a significant amount when you factor in the set backs schools have endured the past year.
Johnson says this new agreement was unanimous with all the divisions.
“They did give it a good deal of thought,” Johnson said. “They had questions for their own practices they needed to examine. For example, some of the school divisions had contracts in place.”
Johnson says the new agreement will not affect routes or the number of buses in operation.
