So a CFL video game finally exists. Sort of. At the moment it’s a CFL game on your cell phone/tablet but it’s better than nothing. It means their looking into it more and more, and as of this blog, it’s sitting just outside of Top 30 status on Apples App store for games. So the question now I imagine is how does it play and look?
Well as far as gameplay goes its very simplistic. You select the type of play you want, tap to hike the ball, and then simply tap the player you want to throw to. Run plays well run the same, tap then tap. After that it get’s a little weird. See when I played I scored a touchdown, then immediately went for two not choice in the matter, same with the start of the game actually, no kick off there either. On defense it’s again simple, tap the guy you want and then just run at the opposing player and hit the button. This leads to some comical looks as well apparently you can’t run out of bounds either it’s touchdown or a tackle.
As for the graphics, it has a very cartoonish look to things that does at least look good for the intended audience. As a plus they have all the teams, players are there as well, and as a nice touch when you pick your team you go through the actual CFL season that’s currently under way. However no playoffs or Grey Cup.
So what are my actual thoughts on the game. Look it’s meant for kids not for guys pushing 30 it’s meant to look cartoon-ish and be stripped down. Doesn’t stop it at all from being at least a decent game to play while your waiting for appointments or something.
It’s a good, albeit small, step towards getting something bigger. Hopefully there are enough downloads to show to the League that it’s worth maybe investing more.
