As part of its larger grid modernization program, SaskPower announced the launch of a pilot project that will test commercial and industrial smart meters.
In a news release the Crown’s CEO, Mike Marsh says, “this is the next step towards a new, smarter power grid that will help SaskPower provide service that is more adaptable and reliable for today.”
Around 500 of the meters will be installed on the sites of two industrial customers at a number SaskPower and SaskEnergy facilities.
Marsh also said their vision is for Saskatchewan to be on a smart grid in the next five to ten years.
Eighty-five percent of meters across Canada today are of the smart variety.
