I had the good fortune of watching some future CFL and maybe even NFL stars this past Sunday at Mosaic Stadium. For the first time the CFL and NFL partnered to launch the CFL/NFL Flag Football Championship. It’s a round robin event stopping in all CFL cities in Canada promoting physical activity while teaching the fundamentals of the sport including sportsmanship and team work skills for kids ages 11 and 12.
Five teams from Regina competed Sunday morning for a chance to win their way to the national championship in Ottawa during Grey Cup week! There were some very excited kids out playing and very proud parents and grandparents in attendance. Congratulations to the North Dewdney Riders who will head to Ottawa next month to compete to win the national flag football championship and earn a spot at the NFL Pro Bowl Week in Orlando this coming January. Good luck, kids!
This is the first time the CFL and NFL teamed up to host an event like this and organizers say it’s been successful so far. Despite a chilly prairie wind on Sunday, the kids were having a blast and coffee, hot chocolate and tea sales were very good amongst the moms and dads! The kids who participated will remember this for a long time. As one security guard said on Sunday, “I wish they had this for my team when I was growing up!”
