The Ehrlo Sport Venture Library and Outdoor Hockey League both celebrated major milestones over the weekend.
The OHL is entering it`s 25th season, while the sport library is celebrating 20 years this year.
Amanda McConnell, manager of sport venture, says Ranch Ehrlo runs the OHL for a special reason.
“We run the OHL to give all kids the same opportunity,” McConnell says. “There’s a lot of barriers between kids and participating in hockey, (such as) league fees, cost of equipment, and we run the league to remove those barriers so all kids have the same chance.”
The new OHL season kicked off with a street hockey tournament and registration, as well as a tour of the sport venture library event on Saturday.
McConnell, manager of sport venture, says the community support has carried the league and library this far.
“Without that support, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do, and we wouldn’t be celebrating 25 years so that plays a big part of it, and we can see that here today with all of the people that have come by with well wishes, and to celebrate with us.”
The Ehrlo Sport Venture Library aims to provide inner-city youth and families with control of, and access to, a variety of recreational programs such as the OHL.
