Two members of the Regina Pats will suit up for Team WHL when they meet Russia in the annual series that sees the Russians taking on the best players from the WHL, the Ontario League and the Quebec Major Junior League.
Sam Steel will be one of Team WHL’s forwards. The first round pick of the Anaheim Ducks in 2016 was the WHL’s leading scorer last season, and has started the season with 12 points in 7 games. Steel joins Moose Jaw’s Brett Howden, Swift Current’s Tyler Steenburgen, and Shaunavon’s Kole Lind (Kelowna Rockets) as some of the forwards on the squad.
Also suiting up for Team WHL will be Josh Mahura. He is also Anaheim property having been selected by the Ducks in the 3rd round of the 2016 draft. He has 11 points in 7 games this season.
Games will go November 6 in Moose Jaw, and November 7 in Swift Current.
Pats head coach John Paddock will serve as an assistant coach on the team. The head coach is Moose Jaw’s Tim Hunter.
