The newly branded WHL Cup begins in Calgary Wednesday with the four Western Canadian provinces being represented.
The Under 16 team from Saskatchewan is comprised of 20 players from 12 different communities across Saskatchewan and is led by Notre Dame Hounds Coach Clint Mylymok,
After falling in the bronze medal game last year, Team Saskatchewan will look to rebound in 2017 as it also seeks out its first title. Tri-City Americans prospect Kaden Kohle (Humboldt), Kamloops Blazers prospect Josh Pillar (Allan) and Calgary Hitmen prospect Ryder Korczak (Yorkton) lead a highly-talented group of Saskatchewan forwards.
Guarding the goal for Team Saskatchewan will be Moose Jaw’s Bryan Thomson who is property of the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Swift Current Broncos prospect Ethan Hein who hails from Saskatoon.
The team plays its first game against Team Alberta with the gold medal game going Sunday
Of the 80 players taking part in the tournament, 72 were taken in the WHL bantam draft.
