11 new recruits to the Regina Fire Department were celebrated on Friday at a special ceremony.
Family, friends and fellow firefighters gathered at fire hall #4 to celebrate and welcome the new recruits to their new career.
Fire Chief Layne Jackson says it’s important to constantly recruit new firefighters.
“Our staffing levels are important to us, it’s what allows us to respond to the community and respond to those emergencies that are within the community.”
Jackson says all-in-all it was a great ceremony.
“We’re welcoming 11 new recruits to our Department, we’re very proud of them,” Jackson says. “They’ve put in a lot of time and effort to get on the Department, and once they’ve been on, they’ve gone through a three-week orientation where they had to work very hard, and we brought them up to one standard team, so they’re ready to go out and protect and keep the community safe for us.”
Also on hand was city officials including Mayor Michael Fougere and City Manager Chris Holden.
The new recruits will now be dispatched to different departments across the city.
