Today marks exactly two months until Christmas. It begs the question, where has 2017 gone? I’ve already started seeing and hearing Christmas themed commercials reminding us that it’s time to start thinking about Christmas present buying. In my case that means stocking up on gift cards.
Every year I buy gift cards for my family for two key reasons. First, they live far away and gift cards are easier to mail and second, it allows them to actually buy what they want and not accept what I think they want or need. Some would argue a gift card doesn’t come from the heart or not a present bought with thought in mind. I’d argue it is because you’re thinking of what they actually want.
Would I prefer gift cards as presents for either my birthday or Christmas? Yes, and I ask for them every year but seldom get them! While I appreciate what is bought for me(I’m not ungrateful), but I’d prefer a gift card to be able to buy things I want or need for myself or my home. This has proven to be an awkward conversation!
Gift cards as presents; yay or nay?
