John Strang — who admitted to murdering his wife — has received a sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole for 17 years.
Strang pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in early October after his wife Lisa Strang was found dead in the basement of her home in McLean in 2015.
Strang will also serve two years, concurrent, for threatening a second woman later on the day of the murder.
The judge in this case ordered a lifetime prohibition on firearms for John Strang.
He also was ordered to not communicate with victim’s families.
After the sentencing, Strang asked to serve time in Alberta in order to stay in contact with his sister.
